Via simplecomplexity: Casualties of War
This is pretty cool. If I had to improve it, I would have a plot that shows the total casualties with the given window size as it slides (that is, the convolution with the appropriate box filter). I was trying to find things like long-term trends and kept having to look at the actual numbers. That’s a pretty standard vis smell to watch out for – anytime you stare at numbers and try to figure them out, you should just plot them instead.
