Google Insights

This has probably existed for a while, but I only learned about it today (via God Plays Dice.) Google now lets you see where search terms come from: Google Insights for Search.

“Visualization” in the US. The first few states make sense for vis: NM, MA (Cambridge, Boston), MD (College Park), IN (West Lafayette), UT (Salt Lake City), WA (Richland), CA (Davis, Stanford, La Jolla, Berkeley). It took me a little while to figure out why Richland was out-searching Seattle 6 to 1 on visualization – my pacific northwest geography is not that great.

Searching for VTK, ParaView, MayaVi is also interesting – they’re geographically very different. The web hasn’t (yet) made neighbors of us all.
